This book is the first in the Russian historiography is devoted to the whole complex of air battles that unfolded in July - August 1943 on the central sections of the Soviet-German front. Their most important episode was the Battle of Kursk, which includes the defensive operation of the Central and Voronezh Fronts, after the Germans began a strategic operation under the plan "Citadel", and the subsequent offensive operations of the Red Army to the north and south of the so-called Kursk Bulge. As it is known, despite the powerful blow, undertaken on July 5 by the forces of Army Groups "Center" and "South", supported by squadrons of the 6th and 4th Air Fleets, the Germans could not break through the defense and encircle the Soviet troops. At the same time, from the first hours there were fierce and bloody battles not only on the ground, but also in the air. Then, when the enemy was able to bleed and stop, the Soviet counteroffensive was launched under the plans "Kutuzov", which moved on July 12, 1943, the troops of the Western, Bryansk and Central Fronts, and "Commander Rumyantsev", which involved troops of the Steppe and Voronezh Fronts from August 3, 1943. The book examines the course of the fight in each of the individual operations, and draws conclusions as to why the Luftwaffe failed to have a decisive influence on the course and outcome of the battle on the ground in the summer of 1943 (in contrast to 1941 and 1942). This work is provided with numerous photographs, tables and diagrams. It will undoubtedly be of interest to a wide range of readers, especially young people.
