This book is dedicated to astronomy in its various incarnations: from the exploration of the Moon and planets to the study of gravitational waves, dark matter, and dark energy. Scientists from the Sternberg Astronomical Institute (Moscow State University) recount the most important events that occurred in astronomy at the beginning of the new millennium. By a strange coincidence, it was precisely this conventional milestone that was marked by several revolutionary discoveries in astronomy.

In recent years, astronomy and astrophysics have developed particularly rapidly, as evidenced by the number of Nobel Prizes awarded for cutting-edge research. This primarily concerns cosmology, the detection of gravitational waves, the study of supermassive black holes, and the exploration of exoplanets.
The results of this new research are described in the 5th edition of the book. In particular, it discusses the problem of "Hubble tension," which cosmologists have not yet been able to solve.
In the 5th edition, we have removed the color inserts and released a full color edition! The book is supplied with a bookmark - a ribbon bookmark.
