From 1928 to 1935, a children's magazine called "Yozh" was published in Leningrad. Its name was cleverly deciphered as "monthly magazine". It was published for pioneers, but also included sections for younger children - Octoberists. In terms of variety and inventiveness in the presentation of materials, this was the best domestic magazine in children's journalism of the 20s and 30s. "Yozh" is a true document of its era, richly illustrated not only with drawings by famous artists and graphic artists, but also with documentary evidence of the time - photographs. It wrote about the revolution, the civil war, production and labor of workers; talked about pioneer life; the magazine discussed moral and ethical topics; it published biographies of famous scientists, artists and even leaders, educational and natural history essays, as well as interesting and funny riddles, problems, jokes, puzzles and rebuses. The magazine was created by remarkable writers and poets - famous at the time and those who were taking their first steps in literature, and today every child knows their names. In the article by L. N. Kolesova, associate professor of Petrozavodsk University and an expert in the field of children's journalism, you can learn more about the history of the magazine.
The archive of the magazine "Yozh" is conceived as a multi-volume publication, with the help of which the modern reader will get a complete picture of the undeservedly forgotten magazine, the original issues of which are now difficult to find.
