The book by the outstanding Swiss psychologist and thinker Marie-Louise von Franz, "Archetypal Symbols in Fairy Tales", which she worked on for eight years, was published in the 1950s under the name of another person, Hedwig von Beith. The collection is published in Russian for the first time as part of a collection of works.

In this work, Marie-Louise von Franz turns to fairy tales of many peoples, often including Russian folk tales. She is the founder of a new direction in the study of folklore using the achievements of analytical psychology.

The work "Archetypal Symbols in Fairy Tales" offered to the attention of readers is published in the first three volumes of the collected works: "Ordinary and Magical Worlds", "The Hero's Journey" and "The Maiden's Test". The second volume is devoted to the motif of the fairy-tale hero's journey in search of some hard-to-reach treasure - a symbol of the self. Von Franz considers the journey of such a hero as a process of individuation of the personality and at the same time as a metaphor for immersion into the unconscious.

The book is addressed to both specialists in the field of psychoanalysis, psychology, cultural studies, and a wide range of readers who are interested in folk art
