People have always been interested in and concerned about the future. In the absence of a time machine capable of traveling to the coming centuries, the role of guides to new worlds was performed by science fiction writers. Many predictions of representatives of science fiction turned out to be prophetic, something came true, something continues to be realized. Separate in fantastic literature is the genre of dystopia, drawing the future in the darkest, unsightly colors. The author focuses on four writers - Eugene Zamyatin, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell and Ray Bradbury. On the example of their famous works ("We", "Oh Wonderful New World", "1984" and "451 degrees Fahrenheit") possible variants of fictional and real world order and models of destruction of mankind are thoroughly analyzed. The author also pays attention to other famous writers who paid tribute to dystopia in their work. What is the role of power in the world of dystopias? What is the secret of an ideal dictatorship? Can a humor writer predict the future? Why is scientific and technological progress unable to save man? Which "utopians"' predictions turned out to be the most correct? What is the secret of the special foresight of science fiction writers?
