King Charles Frederick II of Prussia (1712–1786), known to history as Frederick the Great, reigned from 1740 until his death. This distinguished member of the Hohenzollern dynasty was popularly nicknamed "Old Fritz." This nickname combined the Germans' affection for their king and recognition of his statesmanship.
One of Frederick the Great's most brilliant works is his political treatise "Anti-Machiavelli," written in 1739–1740, when he was only 28 years old. In it, he polemicizes against Niccolò Machiavelli and his famous book "The Prince." The treatise became one of the most widely read works in enlightened Europe, arguing that the monarch's primary goal is to maintain the well-being and prosperity of his subjects. It has not lost its relevance to this day; on the contrary, it has become extremely popular as the only true way to govern a state.
The edition also includes Frederick the Great's "Instructions on the Art of War to His Generals," a work devoted to the tactics and strategy of warfare.
