"The Anatomy of Power" is a joint work of 28 historians from leading universities and research centers of Russia, studying the phenomenon of power in European society of the Middle Ages and early modern times.

The relations of power and subordination, political institutions, processes and technologies are presented here in all the complexity of their manifestations, as a real organism, as a political body, on a wide geographical and chronological horizon: from Rus' and Byzantium to the Pyrenees and Iceland. The reader will learn about such aspects of European history as the legal foundations of power, symbolic communication of power and society, rituals and representation, the strength and weakness of specific rulers or entire institutions, ups and downs, source study features of the study of power, historical thought in the service of power, power and economics, power and religion, the body of the sovereign, myth-making.
