Julio Cortázar (1914-1984) was an Argentine writer, a classic of world literature, and the author of one of the most famous books of the 20th century, "Hopscotch." A brilliant master of experimentation with form and image, combining reality and fantasy, he was the creator of the "new Latin American novel." "62. Model for Assembly" is one of Cortázar's most unusual works, the origins of which, by his own admission, can be sought in Chapter 62 of "Hopscotch." In the preface to the novel, the author invites the reader to construct the book themselves from arbitrarily selected narrative elements. After all, all of them—cities, people, feelings—are just elements of a construction set from which anything can be created. Anything the reader has the strength, resources, and imagination to create.
