Eliot and James Joyce's "Ulysses." Prohibition was at its peak in the United States, and shaken by a string of scandals, the Hollywood movie industry continued to grow. A new medium, radio, was emerging, and in Britain the BBC was founded. In a postwar society already altered by bloody trauma and pandemic, the mores of the past seemed even more obsolete; the "roaring twenties" began to rumble on, heralding the beginning of the "jazz age."
