The book by a popular Finnish historian shows that the party of "hats" that came to power in Sweden unleashed a war that was unnecessary neither for the Finns nor the Swedes, seeking revenge for the defeat in the Great Northern War. The author convincingly proves that the war was an adventure. For the first time in scientific literature, relying on archival sources, he paints pictures of everyday life in the war, describing the hardships, epidemics, unnecessary losses suffered by the Swedes and ordinary Finns. The author praises the actions of the commanders and soldiers of the Russian army, the quality of its equipment and training. The historian especially notes the foresight of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna and her advisers, who went to the conclusion of the Abosky peace in the expectation of a long peace and to strengthen Russia's position in Europe. In the author's estimation, it was a war in which both sides won.
The book has a large number of color illustrations and maps and is of interest to the widest possible audience.
