The first of them was the battleship "Catherine II". which construction was started in Nikolaev in the beginning of 1883. In 1888 entered the campaign and the second Black Sea battleship "Chesma", the third was "Sinop". "Twelve Apostles" became the fourth ship of that program. With its graceful silhouette and design it was very different from its brethren. Having served faithfully for more than 15 years, she, like all her peers, was a worthy naval shield of the Empire on the Black Sea.
