The collection presents Vladimir Nabokov's plays written in the Crimea, England, Germany and France in 1918-1924. All of them, especially "Wanderers", "Death" and "Pole", in their own way predetermined the poetic and prose experiments of the future famous writer. In these early plays reveals all that distinguishes the manner of the author of "Lolita" and "Ada" and makes with even greater interest to reread his works: the originality of form, dramatic tension, hidden second plan, accuracy in the outline of characters and settings, the richness of metaphors.
The play "In Spring" and the full text of "Pozdnyshev's Speech", which gravitates towards the genre of dramatic monologue, are published for the first time. The edition is accompanied by an extensive article and commentary, which reconstructs the circumstances of the plays' composition and reveals their literary sources.
