N.F. Dubrovin was a historian, academic, and general. He occupies a unique place among military historians of the second half of the 19th century. He essentially adhered to no single school of thought that defined military history at the time. His interests were quite broad. This historical work recounts the events that took place in Russia in 1773–1774, known to us as the "Pugachev Rebellion." Dubrovin studied a colossal amount of material stored in the archives of St. Petersburg and Moscow, as well as documents from private archives. To fill the gaps in information and fully characterize the events and course of the uprising, the author utilized unpublished documents and, of course, the investigative case against Pugachev and his accomplices. The work was originally published in three volumes, but for the convenience of readers, the information has been divided into two books, roughly divided into the years 1773 and 1774.
