This fundamental work, dedicated to the uniforms of Russian aviation and aeronautics personnel from the time of Emperor Alexander III to the present day, is now in its third edition. The first, a three-volume edition, was published from 2004 to 2007. The next edition, compiled into two volumes, was revised and expanded in 2012. The current edition has also been thoroughly revised and expanded.
The primary value of the material presented in this book lies in the authentic documents and images, which allow for a scholarly examination of the circumstances surrounding the introduction, existence, and abolition of elements of the uniform and special equipment used by Russian and Soviet pilots. Most of the archival materials, original drawings, and photographs were identified by the authors and introduced into scholarly circulation for the first time. High-quality presentations of authentic uniforms, equipment, and weapons from museum and private collections are complemented by drawings and reconstructions created by artists specifically for this publication. The book is intended for a wide range of readers interested in military aviation and aeronautics, researchers of the history of the Russian and Soviet armies and navies, and anyone interested in the military past of the Fatherland.
This part of the two-volume work chronologically traces all changes in uniforms, badges, and flags of the military air force from 1890 to 1943.
