The initial history of our country, from the next wave of Slavic settlement in Eastern Europe in the VII-VIII centuries to Prince Vladimir Monomakh, is both mysterious and fascinating. Our ancestors tried to present it to the reader more brightly than convincingly. Foreign authors presented their ideas about Russia and its people, no less fantastic than their views of Russia today. Historians, along with in-depth research, added to this picture of publicity, for centuries arranging ice fights of their personal and "party" concepts before the eyes of readers.
As a result, the public has the impression that the history of ancient Russia is thoroughly mythologized. It is partially true for stories about the first Russ and their Princes in popular, educational and some scientific literature. The problem is that scientific methods of research are difficult for assimilation and presentation, and results of their application are insignificant without understanding by the reader of what ways they are received. Nevertheless, these difficulties can and should be overcome by showing clearly how exactly this is done.
