The book "Mosin's 3-ln rifle: the history of creation and adoption by the Russian Army" examines the process of formation of the Russian school of weapon design from the middle to the end of the 19th century, which resulted in the creation of the 1891 3-ln rifle and its cartridge. The course of work of Sergey Ivanovich Mosin, Leon Nagan and other designers on creation of magazine-fed rifles in the 1880s is described in detail. Much attention is paid to the description of the process of the Artillery Committee of the State Artillery Department's decision to adopt Mosin's 3-ln rifle and the reasons that served as the basis for this act. For the first time the original texts and images of archival documents describing the details of this process are presented in full. The issues of Mosin's and Nagan's copyrights for the rifles they developed are discussed in detail and on a documentary basis. The book describes in detail the entire process of development of the small caliber (3-ln) rifle cartridge and the evolution of its elements. For the first time images and drawings of experimental small caliber cartridges and their elements, as well as cartridge clips, developed in Russia from 1885 to 1891 are presented. The essence and degree of influence of the 1891 rifle on the development of Russian weaponry in the following years, including the creation of automatic weapons, is outlined. The book contains a description of designs and images of rifles developed by S.I. Mosin from 1884 to 1891, all models of rifles by L. Nagan and other gunmakers who worked in Russia on the creation of small caliber magazine rifles, as well as images of rifles of foreign models contemporary to the period under study. The book also contains images of a considerable number of experimental and serial rifles and carbines, developed in Russia and the USSR on the basis of the 3-ln rifle of 1891 revision from 1891 to 1948. The book is illustrated with a large number of diagrams and drawings of the mechanisms of rifles of different models, unique original drawings and other graphic materials. A novelty used in the design of the book is the inclusion of special "long" inserts of 652x290 mm format, which show the general view, sections, "explosion diagram", as well as the appearance of parts and mechanisms of one of the experimental Mosin magazine rifles and a three-dimensional representation of its mechanisms.
