Yanis Varoufakis (b. 1961) was a professor of economics at the University of Athens and the University of Texas at Austin, a consultant on the virtual goods market for Valve's computer games, and the Minister of Economy of Greece (January 27 – July 6, 2015). In this short book, written in the form of a conversation with his daughter, Xenia, he attempts to answer fundamental questions in economics, including the origins of inequality. Drawing on stories from everyday life and classic texts and myths of European culture, from Oedipus and Faustus to Frankenstein and The Matrix, the world-renowned economist explains what economics is and how it influences our lives.
