Call me Vasilisa Nikitichna!
Anna Aninibud, winner of the 2024 Melik-Pashayev publishing house's "School: A Story of (Un)Lost Time" publishing competition, has written a story in which everything unfolds as if it were real, but with a few fantastical twists.
Miracles happen among second-graders! Two irreconcilable enemies, the clever Danka and the bully Seryoga, have suddenly swapped bodies. This means they've swapped parents, apartments, and favorite activities. Incredible, but true: the best and wisest teacher, Vasilisa Nikitichna, is directly involved in this strange event!
The boys begin a difficult life, full of trials and absurd mishaps. They struggle to come up with ways to fix everything and temporarily adapt to life in new families and an unfamiliar social circle. But no such luck! Danka is a bookworm, a keen herpetologist, and a generally good boy who doesn't even know how to kick a soccer ball. Seryoga is a troublemaker, a hooligan, an avid soccer player, and isn't used to doing his homework.
Gradually, the boys realize that to get their lives back, they must help each other become better. This process is oh so difficult!
Danka begins helping Seryozha with his homework, and he slowly, but increasingly willingly and even successfully begins to grasp the intricacies of the school curriculum. And Seryozha, who would have thought it, manages to introduce Danka to soccer.
Gradually, their attitude toward each other changes. Now, if they're not quite friends, they're certainly not enemies.
The book's ending is stunning. Panicking and despairing, at the very last moment, Seryozha remembers Danka's teaching methods and passes his final math test with flying colors. Danka, in turn, also succumbs to panic and despair in the first few minutes, but then gathers his courage, successfully catches the balls flying toward the goal, and leads the football team to victory.
Why this transformation was necessary, what it ultimately led to, will the boys return to their bodies, and what does Vasilisa Nikitichna have to do with it—all these are the questions that primary school children will learn from this entertaining book.
