British historian, Yale University professor Charles Boxer in this study describes the development of Brazil, which in the first half of the 18th century was a huge colony of Portugal, which fundamentally influenced the growth of the American state's economy. The labor of black slaves brought from West Africa allowed the colony to begin growing tobacco and producing sugar, the development of cattle breeding and the discovery and subsequent exploitation of gold and diamond deposits led to significant changes in the life and occupations of the population of Portuguese America and the fusion of three races - European, African and Indian. All this served as the basis for the formation of the independence of Brazilians as an independent people and allowed that time to be called the golden age of Brazil.
