In the new issue of "Chtivo," the editors reflect on why humans have been drawn throughout history to believe in miracles, be it magic or flying saucers, and why new ones will inevitably replace old ones.

To do this, the editors explored the proper use of a crystal ball and a crow feather; studied popular conspiracy theories; found compelling reasons to travel through time; attended a meeting of contactees—people who have seen aliens; and explored why we spit over our left shoulder or look in the mirror when we have to return home.

In a long interview with Sergey Minaev, actor and comedian Dmitry Zhuravlev explained why it's absolutely forbidden to put your hat on the table, but absolutely necessary to warm the feet of the dead. This is just a small sample of what the cover hero learned from life in the village.

Comedian Yevgeny Chebatkov recounted a different childhood, also set in the village, in his column. He and a friend were searching for traces of cannibals at the foot of the Altai Mountains. Another regular columnist for "Chtiv," Alexey Chesnakov, recalled court fortune tellers and explained the ingredients of such a commodity as hope for light. And author Olga Osipova explored which planet is to blame for the hardships we'll face in the coming years (not again, but once again).

And yet.

“We believe in miracles. We have friends who have experienced them, which means sooner or later a miracle will come to us, too; we just need to believe and wait.” – Sergey Minaev.
