Sergei Yesenin (1895-1925) is the most beloved poet of Russia. A self-taught genius, he lived only 30 years, but left an unforgettable legacy: poems, dramas, lyric and social verses, many of which became folk songs. He defined the essence of his era more accurately than others, a time of revolutionary changes, when “freedom, which had poisoned us, boldly lashed out beyond the borders.” No one understood Russian nature so deeply.
