The study is a continuation of the large-scale project of the French historian Michel Pastouro, dedicated to writing the history of color in Western European societies, from Ancient Rome to the XNUMXth century. Starting with the prestigious blue and continuing with the controversial black, the author turned to the decoding of green. Until the XNUMXth century, this color was one of the most difficult to produce and consolidate: chemically fragile, for many centuries it was associated with everything changeable, short-lived, fleeting: childhood, love, hope, luck, play, chance, money. Only romantics saw its close connection with nature, which remains relevant to this day, when green, now the color of health, freedom and hope, is entrusted with a high mission to save the planet.
