The study is a continuation of French historian Michel Pastoureau's ambitious project to write the history of color in Western European societies, from ancient Rome to the eighteenth century. Beginning with the prestigious blue and continuing with the controversial black, the author turned to deciphering green. Up until the XIX century, this color was one of the most difficult to produce and fix: chemically fragile, it for many centuries associated with everything changeable, short-lived, fleeting: childhood, love, hope, luck, game, chance, money. Only the Romantics recognized its close connection with nature, which is still relevant today, when green, now the color of health, freedom and hope, has been entrusted with the high mission to save the planet.
