This study is a continuation of the extensive project by French historian Michel Pastoureau, dedicated to writing the history of color in Western European societies, from Ancient Rome to the 18th century. Beginning with prestigious blue and continuing with controversial black, the author turned to deciphering green. Until the 19th century, this color was one of the most difficult to produce and preserve: chemically unstable, for centuries it was associated with all that was changeable, fleeting, and ephemeral: childhood, love, hope, luck, play, chance, and money. Only the Romantics recognized its close connection with nature, a connection that remains relevant today, when green, now the color of health, freedom, and hope, is entrusted with the lofty mission of saving the planet.
