The last major geographical discovery of the 1913th century at one time remained almost unnoticed by contemporaries: the Hydrographic Expedition of the Arctic Ocean ended at the height of the First World War, so that the acquisition of the Land of Emperor Nicholas II (now the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago) was noted then only by specialists. The participants of the campaign, for the most part, either died in the Civil War, or, as the head of the expedition in 1915-XNUMX. B. A. Vilkitsky, ended up in exile.
The book you hold in your hands contains memories and accounts of this great voyage along the Northern Sea Route from east to west. Some of the presented materials are published for the first time, some were published more than 100 years ago and have not been republished since then. The authors of the memoirs are doctor E. E. Arngold, captain of the 2nd rank N. A. Tranze and sailor A. I. Kireev. The collection tells in detail about the ships of the expedition - the icebreaking ships "Taimyr" and "Vaigach", which played an important role in the history of the Russian Arctic. In addition, the book includes many additional materials that help to better present the picture of the Hydrographic Expedition of the Arctic Ocean.
