The name of Nikolai Leonov is well known to fans of the detective genre. In the 1950-1960s, the future writer worked in the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department, and after leaving the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the rank of captain, engaged in literary work. He is the author of many novels and novellas, recognized as classics of the domestic detective and became a "school" for the next generation of writers. Leonov equally well managed as historical detectives (for example, the famous "Tavern on Pyatnitskaya" and "Operation Viking"), and detectives from everyday life. Great success brought the writer a cycle of popular detective stories about Inspector Lev Gurov. "Turnabout" - the first work of the cycle and the first case of Gurov, where there is an image of the investigator, able to think nontrivially and carefully studying the psychology of the criminal. In this, as well as in the following novels ("Shot in the back", "Trap" and "Doomed to Victory"), included in this edition, the investigator Gurov faces a difficult task - to calculate the criminal with a limited number of suspects and the lack of direct evidence. In each of his works Leonov masterfully builds a plot and keeps the intrigue to the end.
