The Battle of the Crimea, which lasted intermittently for two and a half years, stands apart in the history of World War II. Both belligerents, or rather their leaders - Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin - attached exceptional importance to the possession of this peninsula. The former fanatically tried to hold on to it, even when the Eastern Front was literally cracking at the seams and its southern flank had fallen far to the west; the latter gave the liberation of Crimea the highest priority. As a result, the liberation of the "all-union health resort" stretched for six months and turned into a protracted grueling battle, which involved large forces of ground troops and fleets of both sides. And in the sky played out one of the longest and fiercest air battles, which was not interrupted neither day nor night, nor in bad weather. The Crimean epic ended with an incredible in drama and intensity of events final: a rapid rush of the Red Army to Sevastopol and a desperate attempt by the enemy to take their troops to Romania. In this book, based on domestic and German archival documents and other sources for the first time told about the air battle for the Crimea, which lasted from November 1, 1943 to May 12, 1944, which involved many famous Soviet and German aces.
