On March 9, 1888, Emperor Wilhelm I died. His successor, Friedrich III, was already terminally ill by this time and died after only 99 days of reign. On June 15, 1888, his son Wilhelm II was proclaimed Emperor of Germany. Thus, 1888 became the year of three emperors in Germany, and over the next three decades, the Kaiser personified a nation that had quickly become the world's leading military and economic power, and had achieved enormous success in science, technology and culture. At the same time, it is with the name of Wilhelm II that the First World War, the defeat of Germany and the collapse of the Second Reich are associated.

Little-known facts about the circumstances of the beginning of the First World War, the personal relationships between Kaiser Wilhelm II and the Russian Tsar Nicholas II and the fall of the imperial house of Hohenzollern are described in the book by Emil Ludwig.

The collection also includes Paul Lindenberg's work "The Berlin Court and Wilhelm II" and the memoirs of the last Kaiser of Germany "Events and People", covering the period from 1878 to 1918.
