Rear Admiral Alexander Dmitrievich Bubnov dedicated the book of his memoirs to the events of the First World War. From the beginning of the war he was in the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters and served there until the October events of 1917. In July 1916, Bubnov received the rank of captain of the 1st rank "for distinction in service". Rear Admiral he became a year later, in July 1917, already under the Provisional Government. Admiral divides his service in the Stavka into three periods - under Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich, who led the Russian army until August 1915, under Emperor Nicholas II, who took over the duties of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, and under the Provisional Government, after February 1917, which replaced a number of commanders-in-chief in a few months. A.D. Bubnov analyzes the course of military operations during this period and makes a number of interesting, though not uncontroversial conclusions. As a person personally involved in many events, he is well aware of the facts that remained unknown to people from the outside. For example, the epic with the preparation of the Bosphorus operation, alas, failed, he is familiar to him in fine detail, as he himself was engaged in the development of these plans in the Stavka. In 1918 he managed to get to Odessa and joined the White Movement. Admiral Kolchak, who knew Bubnov well, included him in the delegation that was to represent Russia at the Versailles Peace Conference after the end of the First World War. But the Russian white delegation was not admitted to the conference - for the Allies Russia became a played card. Returning to Russia, A.D. Bubnov was in 1919 appointed Chief of Staff of the Black Sea Fleet Commander Admiral A.V. Nenyukov. And in 1920 he went with his family into exile, never to return to Russian shores...
