The main task of the Arithmetic Textbook is to systematize arithmetic concepts and computational techniques, to accustom students to concise, precise, consistent mathematical speech, and to provide concise, easy-to-understand material for repetition. Therefore, the construction of the "Textbook" is somewhat different from the construction of the program and problem books, which inevitably must conclude repetitions or concentric returns to the passed questions. Each new question of the course should be worked through methodically without the textbook. At this time, students use the task book. The final stage in the study of a given question is the reading of the textbook, first together with the teacher in class, and then independently - in the order of repetition of what has been passed. It is useful to periodically reread the rules and generalizations together with the students. The arithmetic textbook serves as a guide for the study of arithmetic theory in grades 3 and 4. Complementing each other, the textbook and the collection of problems exhaust the arithmetic program of these years. The collections of problems and exercises, as well as the arithmetic textbook, were compiled by N. S. Popova under the guidance and with the direct participation of Professor I. N. Kavun.
