"Turkestan in the Era of the Mongol Invasion" is a fundamental work by the founder of the Russian oriental historical school Vasily Vladimirovich Bartold (1869-1930).

A world-famous scholar, V.V. Bartold was the first to raise the study of Central Asia to the level of contemporary historical science. The content of the proposed work is much broader than the topic stated in its title: in essence, it is a general study on the history of Central Asia from the 7th to the beginning of the 13th century. On the pages of the book, the author recreates in detail the historical geography of the region described, the history of its economy and culture, as well as the history of individual peoples inhabiting it. The central part of this region in the period described was Khorezm - the richest state, which included not only the Central Asian territories, but also Persia and Afghanistan. Extensive networks of caravan roads, developed agriculture with irrigation farming, flourishing cities with complex crafts turned this oasis into one of the most densely populated areas of the world at that time. And only the emergence of a new political force - formidable warriors of the steppes from the far north - turned this region into a deserted desert for many years.

The publication is published in the year of the 155th anniversary of V.V. Bartold's birthday and will be of interest to historians, geographers, ethnographers, as well as all those interested in the history of countries bordering Russia.
