Shushana and Shurshik would have had a wonderful life in the farmer’s barn if it weren’t for That Cat! He always ruins everything! So on New Year’s Eve, joyful anticipation of the holiday reigns everywhere, but the little mice have no time for fun. They hid a New Year's treat for themselves, and the owner's cat dug up their hiding place. Although he didn’t like grapes, cheese and pie, he took it all and gobbled it up to the last crumb. Moreover, he wrote to Santa Claus that the little mice were not at home, so on New Year’s Eve Shushanya and Shurshik were left without gifts. True, they did receive one gift - a golden bell from his magic sleigh! The little mice were very tired of the tricks of the mischievous cat Entrecote and decided to teach him a lesson. And how to do this, their neighbor, the wise Ton-Sy from a family of rats, told them.
This wonderful New Year's book was invented and drawn by the British author and illustrator of children's books Nick Butterworth, the creator of the world-famous series about the park watchman Percy (in the Russian translation, Willie). And it was translated by children's poet and writer Elena Mamontova. The story is preceded by a poetic epigraph, and the plot is built according to the laws of the adventure genre, when the reader does not know until the last page what the heroes came up with. And when he finally understands this, then, to celebrate, he may well start dancing along with two quick-witted mice to a cheerful song based on the popular tune “Jingle Bells,” which has become a symbol of the New Year. The book will be an excellent New Year's gift for boys and girls who will definitely love their friendly brother and sister Shurshik and Shushanya.
