With Russia in His Heart. Lord Mountbatten: The Superstar Admiral Who Lived Like a Billionaire and Died Like a Soldier…

There are historical figures known in the West, about whom practically nothing is known in Russia. Such a person is Lord Mountbatten, a member of the British royal family, a prominent military leader, a hero of World War II, an admiral of the Royal Navy, the first sea lord of the Admiralty, the last viceroy of India and its first governor-general after the country gained independence. Being incredibly popular on both sides of the Atlantic, and in England the most recognizable figure (naturally, after the queen, whose profile even adorned postage stamps), in Russia he aroused general interest after the release of the British-American TV series "The Crown", where he was given a lot of attention. But the lord was very closely connected with Russia, a love for which he carried throughout his life, until his tragic death as a result of a terrorist act. His mother was the elder sister of Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and the wife of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, Elizabeth Feodorovna. His father was a cousin of Nicholas II. Mountbatten was very close to Elizabeth II, whom he had known since she was a baby. He acted as a father to Prince Charles, now King Charles III, raising him, as Prince Philip, Lord Mountbatten's nephew, had not had a good relationship with his son. His wife inherited a huge fortune earned by her grandfather in financial transactions in Russia, which allowed the admiral to live like a billionaire. Mountbatten was in contact with many outstanding people of his time, including US President F. D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister W. Churchill. At the Potsdam Conference in 1945, he met I. V. Stalin. He was also friends with world cinema stars, including Charlie Chaplin. The book tells about the fascinating life and work of Lord Mountbatten. The author seeks to understand the true reasons for the admiral's murder, asking a far from idle question: why is he the only member of the British royal family to die at the hands of terrorists in the 20th century? The official version of this crime is absolutely untenable. This is the first serious work about Lord Mountbatten in our country. And in part, it is a continuation of the author's book "Sawed" into three: Bark - Lloyd George - Krasin and Russia's gold reserves." Sergei Tatarinov's research will be of interest to readers who are attracted to the lives of bright, extraordinary personalities, as well as to those who study the history of Russian-British relations.
