The trial of Socrates took place in 399 BC. Accused of “blasphemy” and “debauchery of youth”, the philosopher was sentenced to death, without waiting for which he committed suicide. Basically, Socrates is known to us from the works of students and followers who perpetuated his legendary figure in their “dialogues”. The characterization given by Xenophon is the only one that has come down to us, except that of Plato. Although his interpretation is subjective, it reveals much about Socrates’ views and philosophies.
The book includes four works, usually combined under the title "Socratic Writings": "Memories of Socrates", beginning with a passionate plea for the rehabilitation of a damaged reputation; "The Apology of Socrates", where Xenophon defends his mentor from accusations; "Feast" - a sparkling study of pride and love; "Domostroy" - a practical treatise in the field of economics. The publication is addressed to philosophers, historians, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the classical heritage of world philosophical thought and the history of everyday life of Ancient Greece.
