In addition to the famous story "Dog's Heart" by Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov, which is printed according to the author's last corrected typewriter, the book includes twelve short stories by the writer, including those from the cycle "Golden Correspondences of Ferapont Ferapontovich Kaportsev" and "Self-Colored Life". The story is illustrated with dynamic drawings by the talented contemporary artist Maxim Popovsky, and the stories are illustrated with drawings by Nikolai Ernestovich Radlov (1889-1942).
Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov (1891-1940) began writing the story "Dog's Heart" in 1925, shortly after his marriage to Lyubov Evgenyevna Belozerskaya, who had recently returned to Russia. The story contained many critical attacks against the situation in Soviet Russia after the revolution, so it was never printed during Bulgakov's lifetime. K. M. Simonov, who for many years was chairman of the Commission on the literary heritage of the writer and did a lot for the publication of his works, noted in 1967 about "Heart of a Dog": "It is a difficult thing, difficult to publish even now. For the first time the story was printed abroad. In 1968, "Heart of a Dog" was published in London. The text was published by Flegon press in the 9th and 10th issues of the magazine "Student. Journal of the avant-garde of Soviet literature". In the same year the novella was published in Frankfurt am Main. It was printed by the publishing house "Posev" in the 69th issue of the "Journal of Literature, Art, Science and Socio-Political Thought 'Grani'". Both of these publications appeared without the knowledge of the writer's widow. The published texts deviated significantly from the original that belonged to her. The first Soviet edition of "Heart of a Dog" was published only in 1987. The text prepared for publication by the literary scholar M. O. Chudakova appeared in the 6th issue of the magazine "Znamya", but it too contained thousands of distortions. Finally, in 1989, the Kiev publishing house "Dnepr" published a two-volume book of Bulgakov's works prepared by the literary scholar L. M. Yanovskaya, in which the text of "Heart of a Dog" was printed according to the original - the author's last corrected typescript. This unadulterated Bulgakov text is printed in this book. The dynamic scenes of "Heart of a Dog" in this edition are decorated with illustrations by the talented contemporary artist Maxim Popovsky. Bulgakov's stories are accompanied in this book by drawings by Nikolai Ernestovich Radlov (1889-1942). The future artist was born in 1889 in the family of a member of the Academy of Sciences and director of the Public Library Ernest Lvovich Radlova. Nikolai began to draw at school. Studying at the Faculty of History and Philology of St. Petersburg University, Radloff had time to attend classes at the Academy of Arts. He could have become an artist-academician, but chose the path of a cartoonist. Radloff had an amazing talent for depicting short stories as a series of sequential scenes. In 1937 his collection "Stories in Pictures" with funny drawn stories for children was published. This book was a fantastic success, was translated into English and won an award at the International Children's Book Contest in the USA.
