Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) occupy an extremely important place in the structure of Iran's armed forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Such importance is not given to drones even in the United States and Israel. Iran has de facto created a new branch of the armed forces, unmanned reconnaissance and strike aviation, which is present in all three branches of the armed forces (ground forces, aviation, navy) and the IRGC. The success of Iran's UAV program is largely due to the country's leadership's understanding of the role of unmanned aviation in the conflicts of the 21st century. The cost of any drone of the Islamic Republic, which has been under sanctions for almost half a century, is many times (if not orders of magnitude) less than that of its foreign counterparts. Having no satellite communication channel, they have repeatedly struck hundreds and even thousands of kilometers away from the launch site, including against moving targets (for example, the famous kamikaze drone "Shahed-136" flew several hundred kilometers and hit a tanker traveling at a speed of 15 knots). At the same time, the range of tasks to be accomplished is not at all limited to striking ground targets, reconnaissance, surveillance and target designation. The IRGC's exercises included demonstrations of REB drones and the adoption of UAV interceptors for airborne targets. This book is the first to cover all types of Iranian airplane-type UAVs, as well as their extensive combat experience, in great detail. Much of the information is taken by the author from Iranian sources. The publication is illustrated with many photographs.
