The Silver Age is a figurative name in the history of Russian poetry of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It was "one of the most refined epochs in the history of Russian culture, the epoch of creative rise and philosophy". So wrote the Russian philosopher N.A. Berdyaev, who gave the name to this period of culture and art. The first decades of the twentieth century - a difficult and terrible page in the history of Russia - the era of wars and revolutions. "Russian souls were possessed by premonitions of impending catastrophes. Poets saw not only zori, but also something terrible looming over Russia and the world..." Silver Age poetry absorbed ancient mythology, biblical history, the rich experience of European and world literature, is closely connected with Russian folklore, its songs, laments, tales and ditties.
