Igor Nikolaevich Sukhikh is a literary scholar, doctor of philological sciences, professor at St. Petersburg University, writer, and critic. He is the author of numerous studies on the history of Russian literature of the XIX-XX centuries, including the books "Problems of Chekhov's Poetics", "Chekhov in Life: Plots for a Small Novel", "From... and to... Etudes on Russian Literature", "Sergei Dovlatov: Time, Place, Fate", "Structure and Meaning: Theory of Literature for All", "Books of the XX Century. Russian Canon" and others, as well as favorite schoolchildren and teachers textbooks on literature. The three-volume book "Russian Literature for All" (first edition - 2013) is a guide to the Russian classics, addressed to the widest possible readership. It gives an idea of the national literary canon - from "The Tale of Igor's Campaign" to the authors of the late twentieth century. The present, already the fourth edition, is supplemented with new chapters - "Folklore: from bylinas to ditties", "Tales of the Time of Troubles: happiness-evil", "A. D. Kantemir", "A. N. Radishchev", "N. S. Leskov", expanded chapters on Saltykov-Shchedrin and Gorky, and also included a large section on "The Language of Russian Writers". "Russian Literature for All" is one of those rare books that do not become obsolete with time. It proves once again that philology is not a dull science and a serious conversation about literature can be not only informative, but also fascinating.
