In Tsarist Russia, the army was always a reliable support for the ruling regime: it was used not only in foreign wars, but also to suppress uprisings within the country. During the revolution of 1905, despite individual uprisings in the army, it was the army that saved tsarism from collapse; with the outbreak of World War I, carried away by the ultra-patriotic and chauvinistic slogans of the government, the soldiers were ready to fight to the "victorious end". Even after the February Revolution of 1917, the army often considered the Bolsheviks, who opposed the war, to be "German agents and traitors to the Motherland". How did the Bolsheviks manage to win the army over to their side? The book, edited by the prominent military historian, Academician L. G. Beskrovny, contains the answer to this question. It covers in detail the activities of the Bolshevik Party in the troops, the methods of its propaganda, the work of the "voenok" - the military committees of the RSDLP(b). Despite the abundance of factual material, the book is easy to read and accessible to the widest range of readers.
