Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961) – a Swiss psychologist, psychotherapist, philosopher, sociologist, and cultural theorist – was one of the outstanding scientists of the 20th century, a student of Sigmund Freud, the founder of analytical psychology and psychotherapy, and the founder and president of the Swiss Society of Practical Psychology.

In the collection's opening work, "The Psychology of Dementia Praecox," devoted to the psychogenesis and clinical features of schizophrenia, Jung summarized the results of his early research at the Burghölzli Clinic, where he had ample opportunity to study the nature and manifestations of psychoses. This work made a profound impression on Sigmund Freud and immediately established the young scientist among the recognized researchers in the field of psychiatry. Jung subsequently returned to the topic of the psychogenesis of mental illnesses repeatedly, revising his assessments and proposals in light of new research and accumulated experience. The works presented in the collection allow us to trace the dynamics of Jung's views on this issue over the course of half a century – from 1907 to 1958.
