Georgy Zhzhenov burst onto the Soviet film scene in the early 1960s, immediately captivating audiences with his unique acting and personal charm. Many wondered where this mature artist, who could create powerful characters even in supporting roles (remember the traffic cop in Beware of the Car), had suddenly emerged. Not to mention his leading roles – the Resident in the famous film tetralogy, Willie Clarke in the three-part television film All the King's Men, General Bessonov in Hot Snow! Meanwhile, the actor had begun appearing in films as early as the 1930s (he also managed to star in the Vasiliev brothers' legendary Chapayev), after which he disappeared from public view for seventeen long years. During these years, Georgy Zhzhenov had to endure his share of hardship, enduring prisons, camps, and exile. He recalls this in his book “The Lived,” which is full of simplicity, high truth, and human dignity.
