"The Complete Collection of Historical Notes of Daiviet" is the central monument of traditional historical thought of Vietnam (translated into Russian and published in eight volumes in 2002-2022). The text of this state chronicle goes up to 1675. Continuation - new chapters describing events up to 1740 - were printed in the 18th century, but by imperial decree in the 19th century the woodblocks were withdrawn and destroyed as unacceptable to the ruling dynasty. Only lengthy quotations or revised fragments of these chapters have survived in unofficial historical works and chronicles. The present edition is an experience of reconstructing the text of the continuation through a critical selection from all surviving versions.

Volume 1 includes chapters I-III of this reconstruction: the reconstructed text in the original language, a translation of the text with scholarly commentary and appendices. The chapters describe events that took place between 1672 and 1729, during the Late Le dynasty, when the country was undergoing important social and economic reforms. The appendix includes translations from the Chinese chronicle Qing shilu, an eighteenth-century description of Vietnam (Annam) added to the Chinese corpus Wen xian tung cao, and chapters from the chronicle of a noble Vietnamese Dang family related to the period described.
