Alexander Sokolov once again addresses the topic of non-Russians. In his previous work, he described the devoted service to our fatherland of the foreign members of the Romanov family. In this one, he will focus on foreigners who, with their genius and talents, selflessly served Russia and its glory. It was in our country that they realized their potential as military leaders, scientists, and artists, but they never ceased to be Germans, Englishmen, and Frenchmen. Unique features of the national mentality, overlapping with Russian reality, often generated conflicts, but at the same time, they made that reality brighter and richer. Russia changed these people, but they changed Russia too. Russia has always been able to learn and has strived to absorb the best from other civilizations without losing its unique identity, culture, and spirituality. The author selected the characters for the book based on themes he had previously researched, seeking to bring half-forgotten names back from obscurity or, conversely, to reveal seemingly well-known figures in a new light. We'll read stories about Odessa's beloved Emmanuel de Richelieu, Captain-Commander Vitus Bering, the brilliant sculptor Carlo Rastrelli, Field Marshal Burkhard Munnich, and Franz Lefort, friend and associate of the Russian Tsar Peter the Great.
