Boris Polevoy (1908-1981) was a Soviet writer and screenwriter. During the Great Patriotic War he worked as a war correspondent. This experience formed the basis of all the works of the writer. The most famous work of B. N. Polevoy "The Tale of a Real Man" (1941) is based on real events. The author was awarded the Stalin Prize, and the book became a classic of literature about the Great Patriotic War. This is a stirring story about the pilot Alexei Maresiev (in the book - Meresiev). The story is about a real Hero of the Soviet Union, whose plane was shot down in aerial combat. The hero finds himself in the forest without food and water, and later, in the hospital, he has both legs amputated. But this does not prevent Meresiev from returning to his former life and continuing to fly the fighter plane. Pilot Meresiev is a strong, brave man, and with his feat he shows how one can remain a real man in the most inhuman conditions.
