This book is an adaptation of the novel The Last of the Mohicans by the famous American writer James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851), whose works have gained immense popularity both in the United States and in Europe. The novel is set during the colonial wars in North America. Some Indian tribes are almost completely exterminated. The beauties Kora and Alice, Major Hayward, the courageous hunter Hawkeye and their brave friends Chingachgook and Uncas have to overcome many obstacles and dangers on their way to the goal - the British Fort William Henry, where the girls are waiting for their father. At the end of the book, Uncas dies in an unsuccessful attempt to save Cora, the eldest of the daughters, leaving his father Chingachgook the last of the Mohicans. After each chapter, commentary and translation of difficult words and expressions are presented, as well as exercises aimed at checking the understanding of the text, practicing vocabulary and grammatical structures, and developing oral speech. The manual is addressed to students in grades 5-7 of secondary schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, as well as a wide range of people who study English on their own.
