The Polish narrative in the Caucasian-Black Sea realities of the 19th century. Monograph

The materials presented on the pages of this monograph, dedicated to the lives of many thousands of Poles in the Caucasian-Black Sea realities of the 19th century, supplement the authors' previous publications and shed light on circumstances that had previously rarely become the object of close attention from interested observers in both Russia and Poland. This was greatly hampered by historically conditioned negative stereotypes existing between the parties, as well as ideological and cultural rivalry and hostility that persisted in the political elites of both states. The memory of these people was not in demand for a long time in both Russia and Poland. The reason for this was the socio-political events and processes in which the societies of both countries were immersed. In Russia, after the October Revolution of 1917 and the subsequent development of the communist socio-political system, there was no longer a need for the heroes of the former tsarist empire. In Poland, information about the Poles who, voluntarily or consciously, served the glory of the Russian Empire in the Caucasus was not in demand for a long time, primarily because it was probably not very much needed, since the imperial Poles were lost to Polishness, did not rebel against Russia and did not go to die on the barricades for the ideals of the gentry. From the entire centuries-old legacy of relations between Russia and Poland, the authors focused their attention mainly on the interaction of Poles with the Russian Empire during the 19th century in a separate territory - the Caucasus. This is due to both the interest of the authors in this problem and the events associated with the course of the conquest of the Caucasus by Russia and the mass participation of immigrants from Poland in them.
