Oleg Vasilyevich Volkov, a peer of the century, a hereditary nobleman, was first arrested at the age of 28, and was finally released only in 1955, having spent half a lifetime in prisons, exiles and camps. Twice he served a camp term in Solovki (1928-1929,1931-1933), to which he devoted several chapters that make up a significant part of his famous work "Plunge into Darkness", which was completed by the end of the 1970s. Like other similar manuscripts of that time, it was written "in the desk", was harmful and even dangerous in those circumstances of censored literature.
Now, in the year of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the SLON (Solovetsky Special Purpose Camp), it is time to remember again the terrible social whirlwinds that tormented Russia throughout the 20th century. And in a truly boundless sea of "camp" literature, Volkov's book clearly stands out for its tone. "The bright face of Christ's Church", "shining lights of faith", "bright people" who became "light and truth in the dark night", "lights of panikadilas and lamps", "sunlight" - together and separately all this fills the book with a special content, testifies to the inner light that transforms the thoughts and actions of man, gives him hope for the best, if it is a reflection of the Supreme Light.
