This book is about true romantics. About people who are ready to sacrifice their lives in the name of discovery and saving people.
The first airplanes appeared at the beginning of the last century. They were clumsy and slow-moving, often fell and crashed, so they flew on them only desperate brave men, ready to risk their lives. Although there were no instruments to fly at night or in fog, brave pilots were not afraid to embark on dangerous expeditions. In this book we will tell the story of the rescue of the crew and passengers of the steamer "Chelyuskin" by brave pilots and the three famous flights that were made in 1937 by the crews of Russian pilots under the command of Mikhail Vodopyanov, Valery Chkalov and Mikhail Gromov. Vodopyanov and his comrades - made the first ever landing at the North Pole. They were the first people who actually visited the mark of 90 degrees north latitude. Valery Chkalov and Mikhail Gromov were the first to reach America in a new way, flying over the North Pole. Gromov at the same time set a record for the distance of non-stop flight, overcoming 10,148 kilometers in 62 hours and 17 minutes. These stories entered the annals of Arctic exploration as the greatest feats of Soviet people. The whole world admired the polar pilots who accomplished what seemed impossible. The collection includes 3 stories. For primary school age.
