The reforms of the 1860s, which created new social elevators, led to the emergence of the women's movement in Russia. At first, its participants advocated for improving the lives of women within the framework of contemporary Russian society, without setting themselves the goal of changing it. However, at the turn of the XNUMXth-XNUMXth centuries, a feminist movement was formed on the basis of the women's movement, which consistently criticized the gender attitudes prevailing in society. Irina Yukina in her book identifies two stages in the history of the women's movement and explores the relationships of continuity between them, showing how a single ideological space of women's struggle for their rights was formed in Russia. Based on theoretical approaches from the sociology of social movements, the tools of intellectual history and gender studies, the author analyzes the origins of the Russian women's movement, its tasks, ideology and the fate of its key participants. The book is the second, expanded and updated edition. Irina Yukina is a historian and sociologist, candidate of sociological sciences.
