Thomas Robert Malthus (1766–1834) was an English economist and a representative of classical political economy in England. He was a member of the Royal Society of London, a foreign member of the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, and a foreign honorary member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg.

In his book "An Essay on the Principle of Population," Malthus wrote that if population growth is not restrained by any factors, it will double every quarter century and, consequently, grow exponentially. Due to limited resources, this will inevitably lead to poverty, famine, and social upheaval.
Malthus's ideas were rejected and overthrown by many, including the classics of Marxism.
However, later economists returned to Malthus's conclusions again and again. His views, despite everything, remain relevant today, especially in light of the "green agenda."
