St. Nicholas of Serbia (Velimirovic, 1880-1956) is undoubtedly the brightest and most important personality in the modern history of the Balkans. The greatest Serb of the 20th century, he reminds us of the old truths, unfortunately forgotten by many today, and with his entire life he steadfastly testified that true love and service to the Lord is unthinkable without embracing the God-given values of national life. Contemporaries called his sermons "heaven-defying" and said that "since the time of St. Sava, the Serbian land has not known a shepherd of such intellectual and moral power." Long before the official canonization (May 2003), the veneration of the saint, marked by many miraculous phenomena, had spread widely among the people. Believing in the special mission of the Slavs, St. Nicholas, following St. Seraphim, foretold the coming greatness of the Orthodox kingdom, in which there would be a place for both "the kingdom of Holy Russia" and "the kingdom of the Balkan peoples". And expressed the hope that their example would inspire and restore fallen and defamed Europe, once the beloved daughter of the Savior. The ninth volume of the works of St. Nicholas (Velimirovich) includes: "Prayers at the Lake," "The Science of Miracles," and the prayers of St. Nicholas.
